I can't decide if our weakest discipline is ladies or pairs. I don't see any of our ladies or pairs getting a medal. I wish we could combine Rachael's jumps with Mirai's artistry and just send one lady. If Mirai skates clean, she could place in the top 5. I don't see a top 5 for Rachael.....she's just not a "pretty" skater. I don't mean the way she looks; I mean she doesn't skate "pretty".
Agreed about Flatt's lack of grace and aesthetic quality. She scores high on a national level because she lands her jumps cleanly, but on an international stage, she really has no chance. It would take a miracle for her to medal, because even if Yu-Na or Mao falter, they are still going to be heads and shoulders above Rachael with GOEs and program components. Mao could probably get more points with just her spiral sequence than Rachel could get for her entire program. I kind of see Rochette as the same thing. She's all athletics, there's no real finesse or grace to her programs. Yet I see her as the dark horse for a medal (if she can keep it together) because when she's on, she is just as good of a jumper as Rachael but has more international experience.
